Interview

1. Why would you choose a Sheltie out of all kinds of different breeds?

Have always loved the look of the Sheltie since we were kids ourselves.

2. Is the Sheltie your favourite breed? If so, why?

Yes....we love their loving personality and trainability.

3. Have you ever bred a white factored Sheltie?

Yes...many of our dogs are white factored. That is where the lovely white markings come from. You must take care not to bred two white factored dogs together as you may get mismarked puppies. They are still very healthy pets.

4. Why do Shelties bark so much?

This breed was originally bred to guard the sheep on the Shetland Isles. They were bred to give a warning by barking if a danger to the sheep appeared.

5. Have you ever bred a Sheltie mix?

Never. As Canadian Kennel Club Members that is strictly forbidden.

6. How did you first discover Shelties?

Our first Sheltie was purchased as a pet for our children back in 1975.

7. What are the pros of breeding Shelties?

We love having puppies in our home and are always looking for a special puppy to keep and take to the dog shows and we also love making families happy with a beautiful loving pet sheltie.

8. What are the cons of breeding Shelties?

Breeding any dogs are full of heart break and disappointment. Sometimes puppies don't survive and this is very sad but Mother Nature will take her share.

9. Why can Shelties get eye disease?

Collies were used in the development of this breed as late as the 1940s and 1950s. Collies have serious eye issues and Shelties can be affected. It is not very common in Shelties anymore. We have all our breeding stocks’ eyes checked at a dog eye clinic.

10. Because of their size, how can Shelties herd?

Shelties are very fast and can turn quickly. They nip at the sheep’s heels. There are Herding Trials held through out the country where Shelties can compete for Herding titles. It is wonderful to see them do what they were originally bred to do.
